In Fort Worth, Texas, the man who stabbed two dogs belonging to his neighbors pleaded guilty to animal cruelty on Monday and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
According to the Dallas News, Harris Eugene Hilliard pleaded guilty on Monday to two animal cruelty charges in a plea deal in exchange for the eight-years in prison. It is suspected he committed more acts of cruelty against animals in the northwest area Fort Worth neighborhood while he had been out on bail.
Hilliard’s attorney, Brandon Barnett, stated his client suffers from mental illness with autism.
“Harrison has had two strikes against him since he was a young boy. Growing up, he was never able to connect with people socially, never had any friends, and was often treated very unkindly by peers. While there is no excuse for animal cruelty, Harrison’s developmental disorder and mental health issues certainly played a large part in his mental state when he committed the acts to which he plead guilty,” stated Barnett.
The horrifying incidents occurred in November 2017 when the owner of the dogs heard his dogs cry out. When he went outside, he saw someone standing over his husky, Ely. The person ran across the field towards the house where Hilliard lives. Ely suffered from multiple stab wounds and did not survive. The family’s other dog, Leela had also been stabbed in the back and above her tail. She survived.
Hilliard was arrested by Fort Worth police and after bonding out and disengaging his GPS monitor, several cats and opossums were found slaughtered. He was also charged with harassment and setting fire to a woman’s home.

Hey scumbag lawyer – all your excuses for that maggot puke may, and I repeat may, explain what he did and that’s really stretching it. But it doesn’t excuse it. Might I suggest you go back to school and learn the difference between explain and excuse. It’s not that hard. You might have to start in the second or third grade and do it all over again because those words are not difficult words. I suffered a nasty childhood; I was beaten, starved, kicked and abused in every possible way you can imagine but I don’t do things like that. So go back to school and get an understanding of those two words because you know what – you are worse than the maggot puke who did that.
