A Florida man was arrested, and is facing multiple charges, after the authorities found him in possession of numerous pit bulls living in tiny kennels and covered in fleas. As reported by Click Orlando, 30-year-old Donald Levon Barnes, of Mount Dora, was arrested after Lake County Sheriff’s deputies visited his residence on the 1900 block of Highland Park Boulevard following an anonymous cruelty complaint.
Deputies and investigators found two pit bulls in a kennel that was so small that the dogs were sitting on each other. The dogs were dehydrated and had no access to food or water. More pit bulls were found in another kennel – those dogs were also dehydrated and covered in fleas. One additional pit bull, thin enough that its hip bones were showing, was also discovered – that dog was flea infested as well.
Barnes is facing five counts of cruelty to animals – he told deputies that he was upset that his dogs were seized. The ailing dogs were transported to the Lake County Animal Shelter for veterinary care.
