A Florida man was arrested and is facing a charge of animal cruelty after video showed him intentionally running over a dog with his truck. According to multiple sources, surveillance video showed 29-year-old Robert Joseph Kayat, of Volusia County, swerving his vehicle to hit a dog named Thomas – the dog did not survive.
The video showing the disturbing incident was shared widely on social media. On Sunday, the Volusia County Sheriff addressed the situation on Twitter:
Deputies have ID’d the driver and are charging him with aggravated animal cruelty.
We’ll update you as the arrest is processed.
Kayat is looking at a felony charge for the incident – he has told the authorities that he was only trying to scare the dog that he ultimately killed.
