Florida billionaire used yacht to rescue 50 dogs and supply aid to Bahamas

A Florida billionaire used his yacht to rescue 50 dogs and deliver 30 tons of supplies to the Bahamas. Tom Golisano, chairman of the Golisano Foundation and Paychex, offered his yacht, the Laurel, to carry water, food, and sanitation supplies from Nassau to Freeport.

According to YachtAid Global, the Golisana Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States best known for supporting programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“I was very pleased to be able to assist in this global humanitarian effort to help the people and some of the dogs impacted by Hurricane Dorian,” Golisana said in a press release.

Laurel and our incredible crew led by Capt. Roy Hodges, all did an amazing job bringing essential supplies to the Bahamas and rescuing about 50 dogs who were left homeless when the shelter in which they lived was destroyed.

I am very proud of all their hard work. We will all keep the people of the Bahamas in our prayers.”

The rescued dogs, whose owners may still be missing or are not able to care for their pets, have been brought to the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee, Florida. Many have already been united with their families. Life gets better with our dogs.

“REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD!

BDRR rescued these dogs from the Bahamas and brought them safely back over to their humans via #RescueYacht, Laurel!!  The owners were so incredibly worried about their babies!!  They had come over to South Florida for a medical procedure and left their pups with a friend. They were incredibly worried about the storm devastation and contacted BDRR to help save their babies!!

The owners were beyond thankful to hear that BDRR would help, transport, and get the pups back safely. It was such a happy reunion!!!

ALL ARE SAFELY HOME!!”

I’m so glad they rescued the dogs from the Bahamas but what about cats? I have yet to see anything about anyone rescuing cats.
I do realize they are much harder to capture than dogs, but it can be done.
