In New York, a cat weighing more than 40-pounds needs a home and a diet. Meet Barsik who is five-years-old and tips the kitty scale at 41 pounds arrived at the shelter on Friday with another cat who was a normal weight.

“We just received a 41 pound cat! He may even make it to the Guinness Book of World Records. All that aside, Barsik is extremely obese and needs a home that can help him get to an ideal weight. He is too big for our housing so is resting in the office. Come by Manhattan ACC at 110th/2nd,” the organization posted on their Facebook page.

According to the Animal Care Centers of New York City (ACC), Barsik is extremely obese and needs a home that can help him lose weight and redefine his feline waistline. As he is too big for the cat housing shelter enclosures, he gets to rest in the office.

The shelter staff has already placed Barsik, the 40-pound kitty, on a diet.

The friendly kitty is estimated to be 25 to 30 pounds overweight, and was surrendered by his family who are leaving town.
