Dog euthanized after being picked up

A Texas family is distraught over the sudden and unexpected death of their senior dog, who was picked up last week from rural Iraan, taken to an animal control facility 63 miles away, and promptly euthanized. Facebook user Amber Lynn recounted the sad events leading up to the death of her parents’ boxer, Annie.

So my parents dog got away from the ranch yesterday in Iraan- Annie was picked up and taken to Fort Stockton pound🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️63 miles away from Iraan.

On Monday evening, Amber told her parents that she would drive to Fort Stockton to retrieve the dog, but by 8:00 a.m. the following morning, Annie was already dead.

According to Lynn, the staff at the dog pound told the family that Annie looked sick, so they euthanized her. The family insists that Annie was a senior dog, but not in poor health. Lynn writes:

She went to the vet just a few days before this picture was taken. She was old – not sick. She was blind in one eye, but had a good eye. She had fatty tumors that were Non-cancerous. She saw her vet all of the time. This baby was so spoiled and funny and sweet. Had she needed to be put down, I assure you- the Dr. and my parents would have sat with her and been with her the whole time.

Annie’s collar and tags had been removed by her owners, who had left home for a surgery. Lynn explains:

They didn’t want her to get hung up on anything and she’s never ran off before. They’ve had her for 10 plus years. She literally stayed in or around the house.

Annie lived with her owners on a ranch in the small, rural town. Lynn explains how Annie ended up so far away after being picked up while wandering near her home.

Fort Stockton animal control in Pecos County. Iraan is a very small town and is 63 miles away from Fort Stockton. Iraan does not have an animal control but they do have deputies and Sheriff. The deputy felt it would be in the best interest of the dog to go there even though people were contacting him looking for the dog.

Rest in peace Annie.

  1. WTF is going on??? Isn’t there a “stray hold” timeframe so the family can retrieve their companion??? This is a clear example of “over eager killing”….. by heartless shelter employees (not a shred of compassion for anyone)….. absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking….. I hope Annie’s family can get justice for the wrongful killing of their beloved companion but sadly I doubt it…..

Whilst Annie should have been microchipped, many companions have still been euthanized with these microchips because they are NOT universally read by all scanners (also, rarely, the microchips can “migrate from their original positions”)…….

Precious treasure Annie I am very sorry humans failed you in every way possible….. you deserved so much better treatment than what happened to you……

Precious treasure Annie please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends…….

  2. The deputy felt it would be in the best interest of the dog to go 63 miles away even though people were contacting him looking for the dog? What kind of reasoning is this? The shelter should never have put this dog down until they had at least found out where it belonged! If an owner couldn’t be found then they have the right to put the dog out of it’s misery (if indeed the dog was in misery). I can’t imagine how heart broken this family is! I hope they get some justice out of this!

  3. i wish they sack the ppl who did that as they are completely unfit to work with animals and obey the hold laws, and also charge the ppl who took the dog so many miles out of their way to a pound , would i have power that pound would be closed until further notice and reopend as a rescue not as it was and def no kill and that means even difficult animals no kill nada none , anyone found gets charged and i hope jailed for a very long time , if that happend to me i sue the ass of the pound or government whoever is over the pound top persons!

  4. NEVER FORGET THIS HORRIFIC “RUSH TO KILL SHELTER”!

POST THIS COLD BLOODED MURDER “NATIONWIDE” ON EVERY
SITE YOU CAN POSSIBLY THINK OF!

IT IS THE “ONLY” WAY JUSTICE CAN EVER BE SERVED!
