What a great day it has been for a family cat who will be rejoining his family after he was found 102 days after getting lost in the devastating California Camp Fire.

According to CbsNews in Sacramento, it had been over three months since the community of Paradise was nearly completely destroyed by fire. The home of Paul and Sandra Ritchie burned to the ground, and although they were able to get their other animals to safety, no one could find Dexter, the black family cat. Before they left, the searched everywhere, but when it came time to evacuate, they were sure Dexter was gone or would never survive.

Now who can imagine an animal rescue organization contacting the family to say they found Dexter in the burn zone just last week – not a mile from where the family home had once stood. And more good news – the cat was not harmed.

Next stop for Dexter is a plane trip to Missouri where his family has relocated.

How’s that for a happy news item? It sure made this writer smile.
