A stray dog and his best friend were separated forever on Monday night after one of the dogs had been struck by a car on a busy highway in the southern Guizhou Province in China. The uninjured pup stayed by his friend’s side for three hours.
According to the Daily Mail, the dog seemed to be looking around for help, even though he never left his ailing pal alone. The dogs were obviously bonded friends and were often seen playing together in the neighborhood. The dog, struck by the vehicle, was reported to have been owned by a local retiree.
The video showing what happened and the stray dog’s loyalty to his friend, went viral on Weibo social media. It showed the stray pooch sitting about three feet away from his friend, who had been lying in the street barely moving. As the dog got closer to the injured pup, he looked around at the passers-by as if searching for someone to help. Even after hours staying by his friend, the dog whined and cried and didn’t want to leave.
The injured dog did not survive and was buried in the neighborhood after his retired owner was informed of his dog’s death.
“Poor little stray dog. [It] finally had a playmate, but saw it being run over,” a social media reader wrote.
There has not been any updated information as to whether the stray dog was given a home after this tragedy. We can only hope.
