An excitable Labrador retriever puppy shot an Enid, Oklahoma woman in the thigh on Thursday when the dog jumped into the backseat of a pickup truck onto the console after being spooked by a train.

According to Fox News, Tina Springer, 44, underwent surgery and is expected to fully recover. The woman had been riding in the truck with Brent Parks, 79, when Parks stopped the vehicle to let a train pass. At that moment, Molly, the seven-month-old yellow retriever became scared, jumped onto the console and caused the .22-caliber handgun to fire. Springer was shot in the left thigh.

Molly was the first dog who ever shot a person in Enid. The 911 call went like this:

“A gun went off ….got her in the leg. …bleeding pretty badly.

“She shot herself?” the operator asked.

“No, she didn’t do it herself,” Parks responded.

“Who shot her?”

“We had a dog in here, and he stepped on the gun.”

No foul play has been suspected. Tina Springer is home recovering, and well Molly is fine except she is being kept away from guns and trains.

Be reminded – this could have been a real tragedy. Guns always need to be secured.
