Dog owners in and around Sheldon, Vermont, have been warned to keep an eye on their pets after the discovery of multiple dogs who have been tortured and killed. As reported by NBC 5 News, since early May, Sheldon Animal Control has been alerted to six cases involving dogs who were killed and dumped in Franklin County.

One of the dogs had been suffocated with a bag – another was tied to a tree and shot. Sheldon Animal Control Officer Nicole Michel told the news agency:

“I really have no words for someone who could do something so heartless, so cruel, dogs are our family.”

Officials have been alerted to someone driving a silver sedan and a gold SUV and trying to lure dogs to the the vehicles. There is a $500 reward being offered for information to solve these cruel cases. On Tuesday, the Franklin County Animal Rescue wrote:

FCAR condemns the ongoing abuse of dogs reported in Sheldon and in collaboration with the Vermont Humane Federation we’re announcing a $500 reward for any tips leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this series of acts. We ask anyone with information to contact the state police – and please spread the word that if a dog or cat needs a new home, kindness means calling FCAR.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the State police at 802-524-5993.
