In Johnson City, Tennessee, a dog training facility’s owner has been charged with animal cruelty after a young dog reportedly died while being boarded and trained. Randi LaFerney, the owner of Off Leash K9 Training and trainer Andrew Hunigan, face aggravated animal cruelty charges.

According to WcybNews, the Washington County Animal Control investigation reports the 8-month-old miniature bull terrier was taken to Off Leash on March 18 and had been scheduled to stay for two weeks. When brought to the trainer, the dog weighed 32 pounds. When the trainer stated he recommended the dog stay longer, the owner agreed, and during the six-week period, the owner was not allowed to visit his dog because it would interrupt the training.

It was not until May 1, the family was informed their dog had died. When the owner picked up their pet’s body, the puppy’s weight was 16 pounds.  LaFerney is alleged to have told the family their dog died after it became stuck in its kennel and died from injuries.

The dog’s body has been sent for a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death. Off Leash K9 Training state they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

  1. let me tell you something all need to be charged, shut down and I hope the owner sues them for all that they have
laws need to change they need to stiffen, this cant continue this poor baby

  2. If your dog needs training, then sign up for a training course with your dog with a reputable trainer and do it yourself! We have heard too many stories like this about these “board and train” facilities. The first red flag was the dog needed more training and they weren’t allowed to see the dog. I hope these people sue this POS for killing their dog, Off Leash K9 Training needs to be put out of business and the owner and trainer jailed!
