In a robbery gone awry on Friday, a 20-year-old dog thief shot himself in the leg trying to escape with a nine-week-old puppy in Brampton. The suspect faces charges after allegedly stealing the puppy at gunpoint during a pre-arranged meeting through an online ad.
According to the Peel Regional Police, on December 20, the victim arranged the meeting to sell the American bulldog named Tarzan. Once at the agreed meeting site, the victim handed the puppy to the suspect. That’s when the suspect pointed a gun at the victim and grabbed the puppy. As the alleged thief fled with the pooch, the man accidentally shot himself in the leg causing him to fall to the ground.
Police were notified and arrested the suspect; he was taken to a hospital and treated for his leg injury. He has been charged with robbery and firearm possession.
“A Colt .45 firearm was recovered in the area and the puppy was returned unharmed,” police stated in their press release.
