In Wayne, New Jersey, an emergency text message came in on Monday morning to Hounds in Pounds about a small dog kept locked in a crate and left under a metal carport where temperatures exceeded 102 degrees.

“When we received the text message asking if we could help our response was ‘IS THAT DOG EVEN ALIVE?’ We were told YES but she is in grave condition,” the animal rescue posted on their Facebook page asking for help from their supporters.

“Can you imagine being kept outside under a metal carport in 102 degrees to BAKE? She can’t even stand due to the matting around her legs, it’s so tight that her legs are forcefully bent and she can’t move. Her little body is lifeless.”

Tragically, this kind of abuse didn’t happen over the weekend. It’s incomprehensible to know how long the dog, named Pepper, had been living soaked in urine and feces with open wounds as maggots crawled in and out.

It is hoped Pepper can push through and survive this abuse and neglect. No pet deserves this horror and abuse, and Pepper hopes everyone will work together and help her heal.

Updates to follow.

  1. If the dog was in a carport I hope the owners will be charged with animal abuse. There needs to be some sort of justice for this poor dog!
