In West Haven, Connecticut, a dog owner was arrested on Monday in connection with a dog whose charred remains were discovered after a fire in the parking lot of the beach over the Fourth of July weekend.
The dog, possibly a miniature Schnauzer had cropped ears and a cropped tail. An accelerant may have been used to set the dog on fire. According to Hartford Courant, the dog’s owner, Latrice Moody, 35, faces animal cruelty charges, breach of peace, illegal dumping and open burning. A warrant for the arrest of Maurice Jackson, 41, has also been issued.
At the time, detectives called it a “heinous act” after they found the remains of the dog. According to police, the “older terrier breed” may had been dead before it was set on fire.
Moody has been kept in jail pending bond.
