In Carter County, Tennessee, the owner of dozens of dogs kept them in “inhumane conditions” and drank water described as “green and stagnated” by deputies at the Carter County Sheriff’s Office. Christine Nichole Campbell has been charged with 20 counts of animal cruelty.

According to Carter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at Campbell’s home earlier this month and found 20 dogs caged outside living in horrid conditions. They were exposed to the sun, had no shade, no food and most did not have access to any water.

“The deputy also observed a female dog with puppies that was so malnourished she was unable to produce milk for the puppies. The female dog and puppies were removed on July 1 by animal control. Two of the puppies died a few days later,” a sheriff’s press release stated.

Animal shelter employees removed the remaining dogs from the property. The dogs were seen by a veterinarian;  all  of the dogs were underweight, had hook worms, whip worms, coccidian parasites and fleas.

Campbell will remain in jail until her September court appearance after violating the terms of her probation.
