A dog in Tampa, Florida, died after being left in a crate which was sitting in direct sunlight. As reported by ABC Action News, the temperature take at the crate registered a staggering 131.3 degrees Fahrenheit. Hillsborough animal control found two other dogs at the residence located on East 8th Avenue. The surviving dogs were locked in a utility closet which registered 126.1 degrees.

The dog found dead inside of the crate is believed to have died quickly from the extreme heat – Mallory Offner, Chief Veterinarian at Pet Resource Center, told the news agency, “The temperature of the body was extremely high. It would not even read on the thermometer so the body had really overheated. The dog probably died relatively quickly.”

The dogs’ owner, identified as 34-year-old Ronell Nedd, Jr., is facing multiple charges, including animal cruelty.

Dog owners should be aware of the signs of heat stroke in their pets – excessive panting, drooling, mental confusion and lethargy can all indicate potential heat stroke. It is imperative that dogs be provided with fresh water, and shelter from the sun during periods of high temperature.

  1. The poor dog is dead “regardless” of how slow or fast it happened. This LUNATIC deserves a a “slow” and “long” painful punishment–maybe he’ll get it in HELL!

  2. Plain and simple neglect. This is someone who has dogs and doesn’t care a bit about them. Why they get them only to abuse and kill them is anyone’s guess. Rest in peace poor dog, I hope and pray this POS gets what he deserves for punishment.
