Dog died after being left in ‘hot car’ for hours as owner shopped

In Pensacola, Florida, the owner of a dog faces animal cruelty charges after she left her pet in a hot car for hours while she shopped at a Walmart store. On Friday, Crystal Marie Houk returned to her car, but her dog had already died.

According to WbayNews, Houk was in tears when she returned to her car and her pit bull mix had died. The police were called to the parking lot after a store employee opened the car door to find the dog dead. A witness videoed the incident showing Houk hysterical as her dog’s lifeless body laid on the backseat floor of her vehicle.

Houk told authorities she had left the car running with the air-conditioning, but when the dog was discovered, just hot air had been blowing out of the vents. It is estimated the dog had been in the car for nearly four hours. The temperature on Friday afternoon was 89 degrees, but the heat index surpassed 100. The dog’s temperature registered at 107.

Houk has been charged with third degree felony animal cruelty. She bailed out of jail and has been ordered to appear in court on September 12.

Leave your pets at home! Every tragedy like this can be easily avoided. Isn’t it always better to come home to a wagging tail and a healthy dog than to be negligent just because your pet gives you the infamous “sad-eyed” look? How many articles like this does the Pet Rescue Report have to post before owners leave their dogs home in the summer heat?

She was in Wal-Mart four hours ?? If she had any type of even a little piece of brain she would have left the dog at home INDOORS, or at least checked on him in the car. Stupidity at its finest
