A Virginia woman has been charged after police witnessed her dragging her senior dog, who later died. As reported by Patch, 54-year-old Stephanie Denise Hillmon is facing a felony animal cruelty charge for the September 10 incident which claimed the life of her eight-year-old dog.

The dragging was witnessed by Prince William County police officers who observed Hillmon dragging the senior Shih Tzu mix on its side. Officers noted that the dog appeared to be overheated and was struggling to breathe.

The police officers contacted animal control for assistance and provided the ailing dog with aid. The dog was transported to an area veterinary hospital where it ultimately passed away.

Hillmon was arrested and she is facing a felony animal cruelty charge.

  1. Was she dragging the dog because it had collapsed? At first I thought that might be the case but it would seem a 54 year old woman should be able to carry a senior Shih Tzu mix. I know at age 71 if I had to I could carry my 30lb Beagle. Then there is the question, had the dog collapsed? Not many concrete details to make any sort of judgment here. I’m just heartbroken the dog died.
