Earlier this week, a dog confined to a cage without food or water for upwards of a month, convulsed for an estimated 30 minutes before dying. As reported by multiple sources, other pets, living in deplorable conditions, were found at the same residence in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania.
Authorities arrested 36-year-old Rachel Bonacci and 35-year-old Christopher Foreman at their Main Street home after discovering the neglectful situation.
Tragically, repeated calls had been made to local officials about the concerning conditions at the residence…but help did not arrive in time. Mayor Gerald Jackson told WTAE News, “We had three or four formal complaints in our office so it’s somebody not doing their job.”
The mayor had told animal welfare officials that the dog was outside without food or water, but nobody came to investigate. Other neighbors reported the same thing. TribLive reports that a witness repeatedly reached out for help The police report states that, “The witness told troopers the dog had been locked in the cage for about a month and her repeated attempts to get investigators to check on it were unsuccessful.”
The dogs’ owners are facing multiple charges including a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and three misdemeanor counts of neglect of animals.
