A devoted dog, adopted by a woman in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, lost his life when he refused to leave her side during a devastating house fire. As reported by WNEP News, 42-year-old Lorrie Botella’s adopted dog, Thor, was deeply bonded to her and days ago, when she was trapped inside of her burning house, he refused to leave her side.
Botella adopted Thor from the Hillside SPCA this past spring. According to volunteer Megan Curry, Thor immediately bonded to Botella. She tells the news agency, “Thor loved her right away. He went right to her and that`s not usual for him. He was abused before he came to the shelter so he was very untrusting of people.”
With patience and time, Thor grew to love and trust his new owner. Curry explains, “He ended up being her best buddy and she would send me updates and pictures and videos and everything, every single day.”
So when Botella was trapped inside of her burning home, Thor chose to stay by her side, rather than running to safety. Botella died from her injuries and Thor perished as well. Another dog in the home was able to escape the blaze and he is now in foster care.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
