No one knows what happened to Orby. The seven-year-old male continues to lose weight since he entered the Carson Animal Care Center in California. Orby appears to have lived alone for a great deal of time or endured a life of neglect, yet when he is visited by a volunteer or staff member of the shelter, all he wants is to love and be loved.

Sadly, Orby is not in the general population of dogs available for adoption – hardly anyone sees him or even knows this precious dog exists.

A shelter volunteer writes:

“…been losing weight since intake (60lb 11/5 to 52lb 11/19). He has pressure sores and fly strike but appears otherwise healthy, except the emaciation. We are monitoring Orby closely and providing supportive care…”

Orby’s assessment at the shelter:

OK with large dogs and Middle school aged kids Orby came to the front of the kennel when he noticed the runner. He stood with a closed mouth, soft eyes, a relaxed body, and a loose wag. When shown the leash, Orby began to paced the front of the kennel eagerly.

He allowed the runner to place on the leash with ease and exited the kennel on his own. He walked ok on leash but constantly stopped to smell various objects of the way. They eventually made it into the catch pen where he was collared with no issues.

Orby was given a few minutes to become familiar with the surrounding environment. During this time, he made his way over to the fence and greeted the dogs standing there. He had a closed mouth, soft eyes, a relaxed body, and a loose wag. The handler let him in and he quickly made his way over to the other dogs.

He exchanged greetings in a friendly manner and walked away to explore the yard when finished. Orby soon returned, constantly sniffing the dogs. He eventually began to mount. Orby ignored the corrections from the other dogs so the handler
stepped in. Orby was given a firm correction in order to stop but simply moved on to the next closest dog. He was given multiple correction and after much time, finally stopped. Orby interacted well and no longer tried to mount. Orby is ok for
public adoption. He is social with other dogs and has a gentle/dainty play style. Large Dogs Ok, Middle School Aged Children and Up Recommended.”
