An avid cyclist, riding through an isolated Oregon high desert region, helped to save the life of a 72-year-old man and his two dogs on a recent ride through the canyon. Tomas Quinones found an unconscious man on the trail.
According to the Oregon State Police Facebook page, George Randolph, accompanied by his two dogs set out to explore the area on July 14. Unfortunately, his Jeep became lodged between two rocks, and in order to return home, he began hiking the next morning to the nearest road – estimated to have been more than 14 miles away.
Four days into his hike, Randolph collapsed – one of his dogs named Cruella never left his side.
It was then that Quinones had been riding in the area, and as reported by the Oregonian, initially thought the figure he spotted up ahead was a dead cow. It wasn’t until he got closer did he realize those were shoes and not hooves, and it was a man lying out there.
Two days later, police were able to find Randolph’s vehicle. His other dog, Buddy had been waiting for his human’s return, and had likely been drinking water from a nearby puddle to survive.
“On July 20, 2019, Deputies from Lake County SO contact OSP to help with the search of the Jeep and second dog. OSP utilized the southwest region Airplane and quickly located the vehicle in a narrow, road less canyon. Troopers responded on ATVs and located the Jeep and missing dog that was in need of medical attention, but was alive. The dog was taken to a local animal hospital for immediate care.”
Randolph and his dogs are recuperating at home. What a lucky family!
