An amicable black Labrador retriever mix recently found himself homeless after being taken to an animal shelter in Kitsap County, Washington. The seven-year-old dog, named Spike, has lost his home and his best friend. A kind-hearted individual, familiar with his situation, has shared Spike’s story on Facebook:

There was a kiddo who had to be removed from parents recently, and at the same time she was removed her dog was also removed and taken to the animal shelter. We were unable to find a foster home who was able to take the dog as well as the child. This kiddo has raised this dog since a puppy and has served as her therapy dog. The dog is now 7 years old. As you can imagine the child is devastated.

She adds her hope for Spike’s future adopter:

What am hoping for is to find someone who is willing and able to not only adopt this sweet boy, but who would be open to allowing visitations occasionally with the kiddo. If not that then even sending pictures and updates. I just left the shelter and spoke with staff about the situation, they stated that they are unable to ask that of future owners. Which is why I am posting this.

And a tidbit about Spike’s personality:

This is Spike, who I just met. He is a big sweet goofball. Staff report he does well with people, dogs, and walks. He had no restrictions!! Please consider letting him into your heart & home ♡

  1. I feel for this poor child losing her home and now her faithful dog. I’m sure she needed to be removed for her safety but what about the heartbreak of losing her dog! I hope a miracle happens and they can be reunited! They need each other.
