A child in Layton, Ohio, is missing his arm after he reached beneath vinyl fencing to pet dogs in an adjoining yard. According to multiple reports, one of the dogs in the fenced yard grabbed hold of the boy’s arm and ripped it off.

As reported by KUTV News, the four-year-old boy had a sock on the arm which he put beneath the fencing on Sunday afternoon. Emergency responders tried to locate the child’s arm, but were unsuccessful – it is surmised that one of the dogs, described as a husky, may have eaten the arm.

The little boy was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital for care – he was reported to be in stable condition.

As reported by 10TV News, the husky believed to be responsible for the attack has been seized – it is unclear what the dog’s fate will be.

  1. They’d better damn well return that Husky to his family: NO EFFIN’ WAY he is responsible – the full blame lies with this child’s inattentive parents!

There is NO WAY this dog – who most likely believed it to be a rodent or squirrel – could have known it was a human being on the other end of a “socked” arm!

To punish this hapless companion for the stupidity of the neighbors serves only to compound the tragedy!

  2. Some parents shouldn’t have children.

I was about that age when my mother left me outside by myself at my uncle’s farm. He had 3 vicious hunting dogs that he kept chained up and Mom didn’t even have the good sense to warn me about them. I wanted to pet them, and it was only by the grace of God, and by the demeanor of the dogs, that I kept away and wasn’t seriously harmed or worse. Who knows what her thinking was. A lot of children that age wouldn’t have taken the hint.

A parent can teach a child that young to stay away, and can certainly take precautions to keep him or her away, just as the dogs’ owners could have! The dog will undoubtedly pay for what happened with his life, even if this was totally out of character for him. Children that young should NEVER be left with any dog, especially a large and and unfamiliar one.

  3. Sad situation all around. Boy looses are and owners of dogs will probably have their dogs or just one euthanized. We need to watch what our children are doing even in their own yard.

  4. This is not the dog’s fault! That child was taunting the dog and trespassing and he should never be left without supervision again!

  5. Let me see. The dogs were not running loose in the neighborhood. The dogs were in their own yard, where they belonged. It appears their owner was within the law by containing their dogs in a fenced yard. I’m sorry the child lost his arm, but IMO, the onus is on the kid’s parents for not watching him. The kid is 4 yrs old. 4 yr olds need to be watched carefully and apparently in this case he wasn’t. Sorry this happened, but the dog’s owners shouldn’t have to face any repercussions. They did what they were supposed to do – keep their dogs on their own property – which was fenced not only to keep their dogs in, but to keep others out. Parent fail.

  6. It’s been a few years since I had a 4 year old, but I never let them outside without me being their to supervise them. Why is it a 4 year old could stick their arm under a fence to pet neighbor dogs? Now this dog will most likely lose it’s life.

  7. poor little child. I really don’t know what to say, except a prayer for him. also a good idea to dig a one foot hole next to your fence and fill it in with concrete. this will help for dogs not digging in a yard.
