Charlie, the dog found starving and thrown into a Buffalo garbage tote in January was put to sleep on Friday announced the SPCA Serving Erie County. The organization met in a news conference on Saturday afternoon to deliver the tragic news.

The SPCA stated Charlie had been showing aggressive behaviors which continued to escalate. The behavior he exhibited was thought to be consistent with dogs trained to fight. He had been aggressive to other dogs and had been chewing through the metal bars of his enclosure.

Charlie was discovered on January 22 in the Bailey Walden area when a sanitation worker spotted the dog in a garbage tote that had just been dumped into the truck. When discovered the SPCA reported Charlie’s body temperature was dangerously low and he had been clinging to life. Charlie’s physical condition gradually improved.

On February 12, the organization posted the following video of a seemingly happy, friendly dog, although he was still being treated for significant health issues.

The person(s) responsible for Charlie’s cruelty and abandonment has not been found. A reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) is available. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPCA at 875.7360. Help Charlie and other dogs just like him find justice.

  1. THIS REALLY ANGERS ME EUTHANIZING AN ANIMAL KNOWING THEIR HISTORY BEING WITH F***ED UP HUMANS HE SUPPOSE TO BE FRIENDLY AND SHOW NO SIGNS OF AGGRESSION. I HOPE THE BASTARD WHO THREW HIM IN THE TRASH SUFFERS IN PAIN WITH CANCER NOW!

  2. Such a sad turn of events and for this dog, a tragic end to a horrible life of dog fighting. To have been found close to death in that tote bag, is a miracle that he got this far. I would imagine that with a specific trainer Charlie could have been rehabilitated like Michael Vick’s dogs who went to Best Friends Animal in Utah. Many of those dogs have be adopted and Best Friends is truly a wonderful facility. Wonder if they could have done anything for Charlie. RIP Charlie.
