This week, a police K9 in Massachusetts, stricken with aggressive and terminal cancer, was treated to a final ride around his favorite spots on the North Shore. K9 Bruin, with the Saugus Police Department, made the trek on Thursday – the Saugus Police Patrol Officer’s Union explained why plans were made for the ailing German shepherd:

This is one of the hardest posts we’ve ever had to do, since the start of our social media. Sadly, as our followers are aware, K9 Bruin was recently diagnosed with untreatable cancer. Unfortunately over the past few days, his condition has worsened. Our beloved K9 Bruin is in far too much pain and discomfort from this aggressive disease.

Town of Saugus police personnel and the surrounding communities accompanied Bruin on his ride, the Patrol Officer’s Union wrote:.

K9 Bruin loved patrolling the streets of Saugus and department personnel are honored to provide him with one final ride by his favorite spots.

After the honorary ride, Bruin was humanely released from his failing body. In a statement, the department announced the nine-year-old dog’s death:

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts today that the Saugus Police Department announces the death of K-9 Bruin.

Interim Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti added:

“He touched many lives. Bruin was a great K9, and served the department well. He also represented the department on over 100 visits he made to local schools and events, and had a special place in the heart of the community. He will be missed greatly by the Saugus Police Department and all members of the public.”

Rest easy Bruin.
