A French bulldog drowned in an exercise pool on Tuesday at a Chinese pet store as the unwitting owner videoed the  tragic situation and failed to realize her dog had taken its last breaths.

According to the Shanghai istNews, the shop called “PP Pet” in the city of Quanzhou, offers swimming sessions for pets in a heated pool. The dogs are monitored by store workers according to the store. In the video, believed to have been filmed by the owner of the dog, the poor pup frantically can be seen paddling his legs trying to keep his head above the water while his body remains in the vertical position.  Within 30 seconds, the dog sank to the bottom. A background woman’s voice yelled out “Ayia can’t swim,” but the shop employee did not respond and the dog drowned. Seconds later the same woman’s voice yelled for the helper to “look look” as the dog’s body sank to the bottom.

A store surveillance video showed the store employee taking the lifeless body of the dog out of the pool with a net. The dog was rushed to a veterinarian, however he did not survive.

The shop has apologized to the dog’s owner and has taken full responsibility for the accident blaming the worker’s misconduct as the cause of the dog’s death. The store and the pet owner are expected to reach a settlement in the case.

Not all dogs can swim. Rest in peace Ayia.

NOTE: The video can be viewed at this link, however it is very disturbing and may not be suitable for all viewing audiences.

  1. This IS NOTHING SHORT of “DOWNRIGHT STUPIDITY”!!! Both the So called employee and the Dumb ASS Owner!!! POOR little dog didn’t deserve to die that way!!! So very Sad!!!

  2. This makes me sick what kind of idiots are running this operation? There would be NO settlement they could give me that would satisfy the horror of watching my beloved pet drown in front of me. I wouldn’t have been standing by videoing it while it was happening either!

  3. OMG: I can NOT believe how stupid the owner was….. NO way would I have allowed my furbaby to be in a water tank or pool without a life jacket!!!

I realize that whilst you can fix many things, you just can’t fix stupid…….
However, the poor puppy paid for their stupidity with his life. I do think that whilst their intent may not have been to harm their puppy, that is, in fact, exactly what happened. I don’t think these people should ever have another dog until after they have completed a “responsible dog care” course….. (in an “ideal” world, there would be this consequence), our reality: they will go out and get another dog……

Precious treasure Ayia, please look for MacKitty in Heaven and he will welcome you into his snuggle buddies group. You can RIP amongst his loving friends……..
