A blind dog named Barklee is hoping for a new beginning after being transferred out of a Youngstown, Ohio, animal shelter where he spent three years of his life. As reported by News 5 Cleveland, the seven-year-old pit bull mix is now at the Lake Humane Society where staff is hopeful that he will finally find a forever home.

Barklee is getting a lot of exposure – and time away from the shelter – thanks to the shelter’s staff. According to the news agency, each week he gets to enjoy a field trip. So far, he has enjoyed time at the beach, a pet store and parks.

On April 2, the shelter announced their new Pawsitive Adventure program which pairs shelter pups with volunteers. The shelter explained how the program works:

The field trips Lake Humane volunteers will be taking the shelter dogs out on can last two hours to all day. The volunteers can take the shelter dogs on hikes, a trip to the beach, a sleepover in a home, or even a nice dinner at a pet-friendly restaurant! Whether you already have a dog or aren’t ready to have one, it’s a great way to get your pet fix in while helping out a four-legged friend.
