A 12-year-old blind dog tragically fell to his death from a two-story balcony under the care of a Rover dog sitter.
According to CbsNews, the dog’s owner, Colleen Nolan, Rover is to blame for the death of her Japanese Chin named Mooshu who she adopted when he was only eight-weeks-old.
Nolan had a business trip to attend and worried about Mooshu because of his advanced age and of course, his blindness. She wanted her dog to remain in his own home, and reached out to Rover for a qualified sitter who the company advertises as using “rigorous screening and background checks.”
The Rover sitter had badges on her profile for having worked with senior and special needs dogs. Nolan thought this would be a good fit and gave the person specific instructions for Mooshu’s care including just taking him outdoors for short walks. When Colleen received a text, she knew something had gone wrong.
“I called her and I said ‘what happened?’ And she said Moosh fell off my porch. What do you mean ‘your porch’ Colleen asked?
That’s when the dog sitter allegedly told Colleen the dog had fallen two stories.
Rover offered to cover half of the expenses following her beloved dog’s death including vet bills, cremation and the cost of a new puppy totaling $2,600, but Colleen would have to sign a confidentiality agreement. Nolan never called them back she stated.
This isn’t the only case involving Rover and Wag, the “Uber” for dogs or “dogbnb” apps one can find to walk and care for pets. Although the company states their pet caregivers are carefully vetted, multiple reports have been compiled of dangerous incidents involving both injuries and deaths of pets.
Both companies state they are “committed to constantly improving their service and care deeply about the safety” of dogs.

I have 4 Japanese Chins and picked a girl from Rover for test run. The girl was not able to get one of my dogs back in the house on a 94 degree day. She did nothing. I asked were Stella was and her reply “she will come in when she is ready”. Found Stella painting in corner of the yard. When I came back in the house, Rover employee was eyeing my belongings and not even trying to fake interest in my other dogs. Glad I did NOT hire Rover, she got negative comments for bringing friends with her to jobs.
