An ailing dog, blind and diabetic, had to be put down after a woman abandoned her at a pet store in northeast Calgary. The Calgary Humane Society issued a release about the cruel abandonment on Thursday. The animal welfare agency stated:
At approximately noon on February 21, 2019, a senior female dog, appearing to be a maltese or bichon, suffering severe medical neglect, was abandoned by an unknown female in the Sunridge Petland store.
According to the shelter, the store’s surveillance video showed a woman entering the pet store with something “concealed” in her coat. Moments later, the woman exited the store with the jacket open. Employees at the store discovered a “blind and immobile” dog who was left behind. The staff reached out to the humane society to report the dog’s abandonment.
The shelter explained why the dog had to be euthanized:
Examination of the dog revealed a very poor prognosis due to untreated diabetes. Diabetic animals that go untreated, suffer immensely. Veterinarians determined the dog needed to be euthanized to end its suffering.
Brad Nichols, Senior Manager, Animal Cruelty Investigations, said,
“While some may see this as a semi-responsible abandonment as it was done indoors at a pet store, it remains irresponsible, inappropriate and criminal. There are a multitude of veterinary clinics in the area, as well as the services of Calgary Humane Society that could have been utilized rather than dumping an elderly, blind dog in unfamiliar surroundings. We would like to speak with the woman in the video to further understand the actions taken on February 21.”

What a way to dump your pet. That poor dog must have been scared, when their time comes it’s your responsibility to do the right thing and be with them as they pass. I hope they find the POS woman and she is charged with abandonment.
This is nothing less than MURDER and should be treated and investigated as such!
