The bitter cold snap is being blamed for the death of a zebra in Carroll County, Indiana. As reported by WLFI News, the zebra died after getting stuck in some fencing, panicking, and then inhaling cold air which ultimately caused his demise.
What happened?
The zebra lived on property which had a carport-like structure for shelter. Though concerns were raised that the structure did not provide adequate protection from the cold, the sheriff’s department indicated that it was okay.
Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby stated that the “property met standards for adequate provisions for outside animals.” Even though the property appeared to “meet standards,” a report is being filed with the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office to see if neglect charges are warranted.
There was another zebra on the same property, but that animal has since been removed.
A neighbor made a public Facebook post about the sad situation:
There are other animals on the property; a cow, pony, goat, and Kangaroo. The kangaroo is in a shed but the other animals are out without shelter other than trees as a wind break. They are kept in a different lot from the Zebras. The zebras were in complete open.
Adding:
It’s so horrible that an animal died. My heart breaks. Our kids, who say hi to the Zebras everyday, woke up to the horrific site which saddens my even more. If you have animals you should be able to take care of them PROPERLY, bottom line. If you don’t then you should be punished.

there are so many pos people all over the world. if it is too damn cold for you or too hot then the same applies to the animal, whatever it is. people really are stupid.
Getting so tired of these damn sheriffs and other law enforcement officials on the publics dime and they have no clue nor do they care how animals can tolerate extreme cold and hot temperatures….stick one of those fat asses outside and see how long he lasts.
