A basset hound miraculously survived a fall onto a spike at the top of a lamppost where she became impaled through the top of her left front leg. The dog, named Libby, fell out of a fourth-floor apartment after jumping through the screen on Sunday at the Brownstones at Englewood South.

According to NorthJersey.com, after her fall onto the top of the lamppost, she was suspended 20 feet into the air. Lt. David Haenelt of the Englewood Fire Department used an aerial ladder to rescue the dog. She was then rushed to the Oradell Animal Hospital for treatment.

It is unknown why Libby decided to jump. Could she have been chasing a squirrel or a bird? Fortunately the dog is expected to make a full recovery.
