Authorities in Sumter County, South Carolina, discovered a major dog fighting operation while serving a warrant on Thursday. As reported by WACH News, deputies went to 38-year-old Alva T. Ridgeway’s home on Lowder Road in Sumter and found over two dozen chained dogs and dog-fighting paraphernalia.

A dog fighting pit, with blood splattered walls, was discovered inside of the Sumter residence, and numerous dogs on logging chains were found on the property. Other evidence, including a “rape stand” and treadmill were found at the residence.

Ridgeway is facing multiple charges for animal cruelty and dog fighting; he was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office detention Center. Officials are trying to find rescue groups to take in the 27 pit bulls found at the property. It is unknown if any or all of them are able to be saved.
