Arrested! 14-year-old suspect wanted in connection with murder of Al Chernoff

An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of beloved animal welfare advocate and rescuer, Al Chernoff. As reported by NBC Philadelphia, a 14-year-old girl surrendered to the Philadelphia Police Department on Thursday night.

Suspect wanted by the police

The authorities had released surveillance video of the suspect in Chernoff’s murder and the girl’s own family recognized her.

Chernoff was found dead inside of the bedroom of his home on the 8400 block of Algon Avenue early Tuesday morning. A call had been made to the authorities about someone is distress at the residence. Responding officers found the 60-year-old man partially tied to the bed with a massive head wound and chest injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene. As reported by ABC Chicago, a 2 x 4 with nails is believed to be the murder weapon.

The rescue community has been rocked by Chernoff’s murder. He was well-known for his efforts to help animals, particularly cats, which he held a special fondness for.

The name of the 14-year-old suspect has not yet been released and no charges have been filed.
