The day has finally arrived – an arrest has been made in the animal cruelty case involving a dog who was doused in accelerant and set on fire in Richmond, Virginia. As reported by WTVR News, the authorities have arrested 20-year-old Jyahshua A. Hill for the death of the dog who was dubbed Tommie.
Hill, of St. Peter Street, is facing a felony animal cruelty charge – he was arrested on Monday. Interim Richmond Police Chief William C. Smith commented on the tips which ultimately resulted in an arrest:
“There are a lot of people to thank, but I’d like to single out all the citizens who contributed tips that pointed us in the right direction. That, plus the excellent job done by arson investigators who did the bulk of the work, major crimes detectives, forensics technicians and animal control officers who all built a strong case to present to the grand jury.”
Tommie survived the horrific act for a short time – he suffered widespread burns on his body and veterinary staff worked round-the-clock to save him, but he passed away. His death sparked outrage among animal lovers and prompted the offering of a $25,000 reward.
