In Betonville, Arkansas, a woman’s husband has been accused of hurting her six-year-old Yorkie by smashing the tiny pup’s head against a brick wall after kicking it in the ribs. Charles Clark Wright was charged on Wednesday with aggravated animal cruelty.
According to Channel5News, Wright’s wife returned home on July 23 and found her Yorkie, “Momo” seriously injured including “bruising around his eye and an abrasion to the back of his head.” When she rushed Momo to the animal hospital, veterinarians examining the dog found a “large fracture” to the back of his head and broken ribs.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Momo had been in substantial pain.
A child at the residence told authorities Wright removed the dog from his kennel the day of the injury, went outside where the child heard the dog yelping and then returned the dog to his kennel. Wright declined making any statements to police nor did he provide any reasons why he would have abused the dog. He has since apologized to his wife stating “he didn’t mean to injure” Momo.
Wright, 36, is free on bond. If found guilty of the Class D felony aggravated animal cruelty, he could face the maximum of six years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
There have been no updates on the condition of Momo.
