Another horse that was running on the beleaguered Santa Anita Park race track in Arcadia, California, is dead. American Currency, a four-year-old gelding, sustained a serious leg injury on Saturday while training and was euthanized, bring the total dead, since the season’s start in December, to 30.
American Currency is the fourth horse trained by Jerry Hollendorfer to die – now, the trainer has been banned from the track. The Stronach Group, which owns the track, has stated that the trainer “is no longer welcome to stable, race or train his horses at any of our facilities.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated that he is “troubled” by the rash of horse deaths at the Santa Anita Park track and he has called for an end to racing until the cause of the deaths has been determined, reports CBS News.
