Over the past few days, animal lovers across the nation flipped out because of a rumor that homeless pets at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter in California were going to be killed. The concern spread like wildfire as speculation ran rampant on social media…writers at the Pet Rescue Report were emailed, tagged and messaged about the upcoming “mass euthanasia” which was supposedly happening on May 7 because of a shelter closure.

But the worst case scenario is not happening. Officials have publicly stated that the homeless pets will be transferred to Riverside County Animal Services, where they will have access to better resources. John Welsh of Riverside County Animal Services told NBC Los Angeles:

This shelter was designed to handle a whole lot of animals. We can handle what’s coming our way from the city of San Bernardino.

Welsh added:

We have a whole army of registered veterinary technicians to help those animals coming from San Bernardino.

In an effort to reduce the number of animals in need of transfer, a free adoption event is being held on May 9 at the San Bernardino facility located at 333 Chandler Place. The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
