The animal control agency in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, is investigating the death of a dog who was shot twice and left alongside a road. According to the animal welfare agency, a witness called 911 on Thursday night to report that a dog had been shot, and was still alive. By the time that an officer arrived, the dog had died.

A second witness reported seeing a man exit an “old rusty Ford pickup” and fire two shots at the dog; the witness stated that the man drove away, leaving the mortally wounded dog alone by the road.

The animal control agency is hoping to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the dog’s death. The agency wrote:

This incident occurred near the intersection of Peach Orchard rd. and John Miller rd. in Pageland.
It is unclear if the dog was taken there by the shooter or was on the side of the road to begin with, at this point we have more questions than answers and would like members of the community that may have any information to contact Officer Alex White at 843-517-9888 or the animal shelter at 843-623-3585

A person left a comment on the animal control agency’s Facebook page stating that the dog was hers. Another person reported seeing the dog on Thursday afternoon and then finding a blood trail across the roadway an hour later.

Anyone with information should reach out to the animal control agency to make a report.
