An ailing puppy, who was abandoned in the bathroom of a Walmart store in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, died not long after being found. As reported by My Fox 8 News, a store employee was notified of the discovery by a customer who found the pup behind a trash can in the men’s bathroom.
One of the store employees took the pup, described as a malnourished collie, to a veterinarian for care, but the puppy ultimately died. Surveillance video was reviewed and a man, with something under his jacket, could be seen walking into the bathroom on the day that the pup was found – when the man exited the bathroom the jacket no longer appeared to have something underneath it.
Officers with the Wilkesboro Police Department tracked the man down – initially he denied taking a puppy into the bathroom, but later asked if someone would get in trouble for attempting to help a puppy that had been found behind Big Lots. The man eventually admitted that he tried to help the pup by feeding it milk and bread, but claimed that the pup wouldn’t open its mouth.
The man told officers that he left the ailing puppy in the Walmart bathroom hoping that someone else would be able to provide it with help. After hearing the man’s story, the District Attorney’s Office decided that cruelty charges were not warranted.
