Update 3/9/19: Alger is safe and out of the building! Rescued and going to a foster home.

Sometimes life simply isn’t fair. For a three-year-old dog named Alger, that seems to be the case – Alger is young, healthy and intelligent, but after months at a busy animal control agency, he is at risk of being killed.

Two days ago, Alger’s advocate wrote about the danger this young dog is in:

Alger has been RED LISTED ~ 48 HOURS ~
My heart is breaking in a million pieces ~ I have not stopped crying ~ Alger Deserves To Live ~ His Life Matters ~ Please Help To Save Alger ~ Please Share…..I LOVE ALGER WITH ALL MY HEART & SOUL❤️❤️ Please don’t let his life end🙏

Some personality information has been shared about this dog as well:

Alger is a Super Happy Loving Life Kind of Dog😀
He has a serous side 🤔and a silly side 🤪
He possesses a lot of personality ~ always up for an adventure. I’m sure he would love to be your side kick❤️ If your not too adventurous..I’m sure just hanging out eating Scooby Snacks watching Netflix would be cool too😎 Alger isn’t just good looks ~ he is smart too ~ he knows (sit, stay, lie down, come & shake)🥰 He hasn’t met a tennis 🎾 ball that he hasn’t loved ~ throw the tennis ball straight up in the air and Alger springs up and catches it mid air!!

Why is Alger in danger of being put down? Nobody has been able to take him from the shelter and give him somewhere safe to live. And there are indications that he may not enjoy the company of other dogs. A rescue group has expressed interest in helping Alger, but a foster home is still needed.

On Tuesday, Smiling Dog Rescue wrote:

  1. Please, there must someone who has a heart for Pitbulls it’s all their smiling gentleness, gooberiness and straight out desire to love their humans. Please get your application in, whether you can foster or adopt – anywhere from CA to AZ. Also, don’t forget there is Pilots for Paws who maybe able to help if you’re further away. Also, many rescues have links of volunteers who do “home runs” to get pooches to their furever homes.
My Thoughts and Prayers for Alger are that his ideal furever humans spot our frantic posts and reach him in time.

Also, could somebody from the industry please explain why it is that staff don’t get the word out sooner when they know a much-deserving pooch has not drawn much attention. Surely it’s not too difficult to figure that no visitors = euthanasia eventually. Why not get the ball rolling early so all the dogs get a good chance at their own furever family instead of a death sentence?
Not criticising, just want to understand the reasoning for ridiculous delays.

Sorry for being so wordy, but this riles me, they give two or three days notice at best – definitely not a fair shake.

  2. Please save him., he is gorgeous. I would love to have him, but I live in Florida & my husband would dis own me for we already have 3 pibbles 🙁 Much love & Prayers he finds a great home
