In Garfield Heights, Ohio, the heat’s on as social media showed their outrage over a 79-year-old woman sentenced to 10 days in jail for feeding stray cats after the animals’ owner abandoned them. Nancy Segula has been scheduled to spend ten days in jail beginning August 11 at 9:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, Fox News reported Garfield Heights Municipal Court Judge Jennifer Weiler will have a new hearing in the case. The magistrate heard Segula’s case last week because Judge Weiler was off.  In Garfield Heights, it is against the law to feed stray dogs and cats.

The magistrate ordered Nancy to jail for contempt of court after the woman had ignored three more citations ordering her to stop feeding the hungry cats.

The area animal warden stated she has tried to work with Nancy through the years and has had multiple complaints from neighbors since 2015. She also stated she has captured 22 cats in the area, but there are still a dozen more on the loose. The trapped cats were taken to a rescue, received medical care and have since been adopted.

PAWS Ohio has volunteered to help and will go to Nancy’s home to trap the cats and kittens left.

Nancy felt bad for the cats, and so she fed them. Now she hopes they will all be caught, spayed and neutered and put up for adoption. She hopes the judge will reconsider sending her to jail; Nancy is very scared.

Oh come on Judge Weiler. The woman was just helping. Where is the punishment for the awful people who just abandon their pets?

A hearing has been scheduled for August 6.
