A $5,000 reward has been offered for the return of two stolen dogs and the subsequent arrest of the thieves who broke into the St. Landry  Parish Animal Control & Rescue in Opelousas, Louisiana. The dogs were stolen from their kennels late Friday night.

According to the shelter’s director, Stacey McKnight, thieves cut holes through three different fences and climbed through a ditch to steal two pit bulls. The shelter cares for more than 300 pets and it is feared the two dogs were specifically stolen for dog fighting, for breeding or to be used as bait dogs.

Yoda is a tan male with cropped ears. Bailey is the female, and has been described as the “gentlest of souls.”

“They did not deserve this. They will be found and someone will go to jail,” Stacey posted on the organization’s social media page. “If these dogs are returned, unharmed, no questions asked. If NOT, the animal kingdom will FIND THEM. Please share and let’s get them home.”

The dogs are microchipped, and it is hoped that will help bring them back to the shelter. Share with friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the shelter at 337.948.6184.

Many thanks to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for adding $2,500 to the reward money. Many thanks to all animal advocates who have contributed to the reward funds. Be the voices for those who cannot speak. If you see something, say something.

  1. I would like to think these two will be found but will they? If they were stolen for dog fighting then I fear their fate is sealed. With so many dogs in Craigs list and being given away free why go through all the trouble these thieves did to steal these two dogs. I pray they are found and found safe.
