Bald eagle stolen from refuge

35-year-old Bald Eagle with one wing stolen from sanctuary

Update 7/21/19: The reward has climbed to $10,000 – please bring Sammy back to his home!

The search is on for whoever stole a 35-year-old Bald Eagle from a New York wildlife sanctuary. The protected bird has only one wing – he has been in the care of the Quogue Wildlife Refuge ever since he lost his wing after being shot by a hunter.

The Long Island area refuge alerted Facebook followers to the theft of the bird, whose name is Sammy, on July 16:

OUR BALD EAGLE WAS TAKEN AND IS MISSING! He will be stressed and cannot survive without our care. We want him back unharmed. It is a federally protected bird and cannot survive in the wild as he has an amputated wing. Any info please call (631) 653-4771 or email info@quoguewildliferefuge.org. Please share this post.

This is BEYOND INSANE! What kind of LUNATIC would do this?

Maybe we need “armed” guards at sanctuaries now!
