In King and Queen County, Virginia, 32 Great Danes were rescued – ranging in condition from “poor to near death” reported the King and Queen Sheriff’s Office press release on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, August 17, 2019, the King and Queen County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 2668 Owens Mill Road in St. Stephens Church, VA. The search warrant successfully allowed the Sheriff’s Deputies to rescue 32 Great Dane dogs housed at the residence. The condition of the 20 adult dogs and 12 puppies rescued ranged from poor to near death. Arrested on Felony Animal Cruelty charges were Richard Awlasewicz and Candice Wheat of the same address.”

Five of the dogs had been left inside of a small, dilapidated camper which had been covered with feces and  urine. There was no food or water, and temperatures were unbearable because of lack of ventilation. The rest of the dogs were inside the residence; no water and very little food was found.

The Health Department and the County Zoning offices have been contacted. Both agencies have responded to health, safety and zoning problems.

On September 6, during the arraignment of Awlasewicz, the owner of 101danes, claimed two of the dogs were service animals and asked that the dogs be returned. The judge declined his attorney’s request, and the hearing has been continued until September 20.

The dogs are under the care and attention of the King William Regional Animal Shelter and are reported to be improving.

  1. OMG, WHY???

These POSs need lengthy jail time and have reserved places in Hell waiting for them where they will burn forever for their cruelty……

Great Danes are fantastic companions. We had friends who had them and they were giant couch potatoes!!!

Hope these precious treasures all heal and are rehomed ASAP!!! They all deserve to be treated as beloved family members!!!
