In Suffolk County, New York, the Suffolk County SPCA were contacted by authorities on Tuesday concerning 18 Shih Tzus discovered living in deplorable conditions as their owners were being evicted from their Brentwood home.

According to the Suffolk County SPCA, the dogs, believed to be Shih Tzu and poodle mixes, were severely matted, urine and feces stuck to their coats and had no access to water. Detectives charged Oscar Arias Sr., 49, and Oscar Arias Jr., 23, with animal cruelty and for failing to provide proper sustenance. The men are scheduled to appear in First District Court on August 21, 2019.

Ten female dogs and eight male dogs were removed from the home – all dogs estimated to be under six-years of age. They are being cared for at the Islip shelter.

“Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631)382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.”
