An urgent plea from Miami-Dade Animal Services went out on Saturday urging animal advocates to help find a home for a 16-year-old Labrador retriever found roaming the streets in excruciating pain from arthritis. Papo had been adopted a year ago, but was found wandering the streets both underweight and in a heartbreaking case of advanced neglect.

A volunteer tearfully describes Papo’s condition:

“Miami-Dade Animal Services what were you thinking when you adopted out this 15 YEAR OLD now 16 YEAR OLD fellow name #Papo #A1696469 who was in excruciating pain from arthritis, teeth falling out while at the shelter, a heart murmur???

Sadly, no one knows how long Papo had been scavenging the streets looking for food and just trying to survive. His adopter is no where to be found. And now Papo is growling at people – volunteers say it is because the dog is scared and in pain.

“I am a male yellow Labrador Retriever mix. The shelter staff think I am about 16 years old and I weigh 36 pounds. I was found as a stray and I may be available for adoption on 08/20/2019.”

“…This poor dog is not going to make it. The shelter will euthanize him to “end his suffering” if that’s truly the case, he deserves to die feeling loved! MDAS failed him horribly. The adopter never even got him heartworm treatment. Isn’t there a rescue out there willing to help let him die with dignity and feeling loved?”

  1. WOW!!! Mind blowing how cruel some POSs can be…..

I hope Papo heals ASAP and is rehomed into a loving furever family where he will be treated as a beloved family member for however long a time he has left. I feel so helpless being in Northern California……. otherwise I would offer our home as hospice care for him. Papo absolutely deserves to die knowing that he was loved……..

Whoever did this to him (neglect and abuse) has a reserved spot in Hell waiting for them where they will burn forever for their cruelty……
