A 12-year-old Labrador retriever named Midnight is struggling to cope with his heartbreaking fate at the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Arizona. Since he was six-weeks-old, he lived with his family, but for unknown reasons they decided to leave him at the shelter on Sunday. Why do people think dogs don’t feel loneliness and despair?
“Midnight was with the same owners since he was six weeks old, so he’s very confused and lonely here at the shelter. Any dog would be bewildered being surrendered at 12, but Midnight is struggling more than most…,” his advocate wrote on Facebook hoping to attract someone interested in adopting the sweet dog.
Most of his life Midnight has spent outdoors, and he surely deserves better. It is hoped he can be placed in a loving home where he can be part of a family and experience a gentler retirement. Senior dogs are an excellent adoption choice for many reasons. They have so much love to give and make exceptionally loyal and faithful companions. Even if they don’t have as much energy as they did in their younger years, they can still have lots of personality and spunk and they can also be calm, understanding, relaxed and even-tempered. They typically require less exercise, suffer from fewer behavioral issues, usually understand basic commands and good manners, are easily trainable, are normally potty trained, and there are no surprises because what you see is what you get.
