A woman took her family for a day of fun at a Georgia water park and decided to leave her dog behind in a car which was parked outside of the recreation area. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, it was over 90 degrees on the day that the dog was left behind.

What happened to the dog?

Thanks to an observant individual, the dog was rescued from the car. Someone noticed the little white dog inside of the vehicle which was parked outside of the Six Flags White Water park and notified the park’s security. Staff members responded to the car and were able to get inside the vehicle to save the dog from dying of heat stroke.

Dog left in hot car

According to officials, the interior temperature of the car had already climbed to over 109-degrees. The Marietta police responded to the scene and cited the dog’s owner, who informed them that she planned to “periodically” check on her dog during the day.

What the police have to say

The Marietta Police recommend that good Samaritans contact the authorities if a dog is found to be in distress inside of a car, but noted that if time does not allow for an officer to respond, it is unlikely that charges would be made if a window had to be broken out to save a life.

Officer McPhilamy explained to the news agency:

“Here in Marietta if you’re the person who broke the window and then called the police to basically report yourself for breaking that window, you did the right thing trying to protect that animal.  All things being unique, by and large, we’re not going to issue you a ticket or take any action against you.”

Be vigilant

Always look inside of vehicles which are parked on hot days. Despite repeated warnings about the danger of leaving dogs inside of parked cars, people continue to make bad decisions. Reach out for help if you see a dog in distress and know the law where you live – many states have good Samaritan laws which allow for someone to rescue a dog from a car in life or death situations.

  1. Idiot! Why didn’t you just leave your little dog home in the air conditioning? Do you really think your dog wants to sit in the car dying of heat stroke while you and the family enjoy the water park? Obviously you weren’t checking too often if the temperature in the car was 109 degrees and your dog was suffering! Some people disgust me!

    • Exactly what I was thinking…… glad this treasure was saved in time (& I hope rehomed to a responsible furever home)……

  2. what real sick heartless people the dog should have stayed home in air condictioning in this kind of weather no pets allowed on park leave the dog home i hope that she doesnt get the dog back she doesnt deserve to have dog or any other pets for that matter

  3. people disgust me have No sense whatso ever STUPID PEOPLE DO STUPID THINGS SHOULDNT HAVE ANY PETS. WHAT MORONS I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HER SIT IN A HOT CAR WHERE TEMP REACH 109. STUPID ASS HOLES

  4. What the heck. This irresponsible human should not be allow to own a dog. I hope it was taken away from her and charge her with animal cruelty.

  5. Another brain dead bitch who had little to no concern for this poor dog – what the fuck is wrong with these idiots? How many damn times do you have to be told to LEAVE YOUR ANIMALS AT HOME – is that too hard to comprehend? Apparently so – this little dog could have died if not for a good Samaritan who stepped up and got the cops involved. This stupid female should be forced to sit in her boiling hot car for a couple hours – and, oops, we forgot about her.
