On Saturday night, a woman died while trying to capture her dog who ran onto I-95 in Stafford County, Virginia, after an accident. The pug, named Stella, escaped from 28-year-old Kate Mason’s Toyota after Mason hit a guardrail, reported WTVR News. In the midst of trying to capture Stella, a car struck and killed Mason. Her beloved dog was also killed after being hit by a car.

Family remembers Mason as a selfless person.

Friends and family of Kate Mason remember a woman who was selfless, and driven to help others. Mason was a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University. She also served in the National Guard as a combat medic. Her family has asked that any donations in Mason’s memory be made to the African Wildlife Organization.

Dog lovers are known to risk their own safety when it comes to saving their beloved pets – for those who consider their pets to be family, throwing caution to the wind is not surprising.

  4. There aren’t enough “good” people in this world and I hate to hear of one losing their life like this. My condolences to Ms Mason’s family May she and her baby Stella, be together for eternity. She did what many of us would do, risk our lives for our pets.

  5. This is so tragic but I completely understand why Ms. Mason risked her life to save Stella, unfortunately, both perished – she obviously loved this little dog and reacted to the danger Stella was in – a lot of us animal lovers would not hesitate to do the same. I hope Ms. Mason’s family will let them be together for eternity – I think Ms. Mason would want that. RIP.
